Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A tragic incident unfolded near Nabanna on Saturday afternoon, claiming the life of a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, Nupur Chatterjee. The accident, caused by a "reckless" toto, has sent shockwaves through the city and prompted an immediate police investigation.
Nupur Chatterjee, who was regularly assigned duties in front of Nabanna, had just finished her shift around noon on Saturday. She was on her way home to Domjur, Howrah, when the fatal accident occurred. Her usual route took her under the bridge near Mandirtala.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the tragedy. A toto, described as moving at an excessive speed, was proceeding under the bridge. Suddenly, it veered sharply to the right, losing control in the process. The out-of-control vehicle then struck Nupur Chatterjee, knocking her to the ground. Adding to the horror, the toto itself toppled over, landing directly on top of her. She lay on the road, severely injured and bleeding profusely.
Bystanders quickly rushed to her aid, managing to pull her from beneath the overturned vehicle. She was immediately transported to a nearby private hospital. However, despite the swift response, medical professionals there tragically declared her deceased upon arrival.
